4.1 [Preliminary Work] Thesis 1: Major Project / Thesis Materials

In the dynamic world of design and branding, evolution and refinement are key. As I journey through the process of creating and enhancing the brand identity for "Dezign," I've taken several pivotal steps. From initial sketches to detailed wireframes, every decision has been made with intention and purpose. Here's a deep dive into the various facets of my branding journey, highlighting the decisions, challenges, and milestones I've encountered along the way. Dezign Branding: I refined my sketches and decided on the name "Dezign." I also introduced a slogan: "a Gen Z toolkit for small businesses." Some of the new sketches and computer roughs I added this semester are interesting, but I'm inclined to retain the original Dezign logo.

Color Palette: I've been actively refining my color palettes. Last week, I was considering an orange, purple, and blue combination, but it didn't align with the gradient I envisioned. I also mentioned that my color strategies last semester were a bit scattered, leading me to revisit my brand's keywords.

Keywords: After some contemplation, I decided to drop "technology" and "Street art" as keywords, choosing to focus on "Bold" and "Connection." While I initially considered various possibilities, I felt that "Bold" and "Connection" resonated the most. I also thought of integrating some elements of street art to give the brand a unique flair, suggesting that street art could be encompassed within the "Bold" category.

Typography: I conducted type tests and am considering specific fonts for my colophon, including

Headers // Bebas Neue Pro Bold - 24/29 Sub-headers // Montserrat SemiBold - 12/18 Body copy // Montserrat Light - 10/18

Logo and Slogan: I've been working on the placement and integration of my logo with the new slogan. I'm satisfied with the new slogan, "Gen Z Toolbox for small businesses," which was suggested by Prof. Laurie. I am still deciding on what type and style to use for the slogan.

Website Design:
Wireframe: I began my website design by creating a wireframe, which is a basic outline of the site. This involved deciding on the overall structure, including the placement of essential elements like the navigation menu and logo. This wireframe is a rough sketch and is expected to evolve as I continue the design process.

Revisions: I revisited wireframe sketches from the previous semester and am contemplating further changes in the next module. I also edited my top-level user flow to match the new color palette and added details of Samantha's full user journey in her interactions with Dezign.
User Flow: I designed the website's user flow, keeping the user's primary goal in mind: scheduling a consultation. A secondary goal is to provide basic education about Gen Z. I ensured that the steps to achieve these goals are clear and straightforward.
