5.1 [Work in Progress] Thesis 1: Major Project / Thesis Materials

Today was a productive day filled with design work. I went through several logo iterations for "DNZ", and I'm thrilled that Prof. Laurie gave her approval on one of theme. This is the logo she thought has the most portential. The inspiration for the logo came while experimenting with the shapes the letters DNZ could form. I tried different designs, from rounded letters to overlapping ones. In the end, I chose overlapping letters with slightly rounded edges. To make it stand out I gave the letters a slight slant, with the "D" being the most noticeable.

Going through the sketch process looked like this:

I also worked on another type test. I adjusted the width to accommodate real printing and then printed out the results.

After the logo and type tests, I shifted my focus to the website design. Prof. Laurie felt the initial design was confusing, pushing me to simplify it according to the main goal that I thought the users needed to accomplish. This feedback made me think about the website's purpose, especially for small business owners like Naomi. I made changes to the design and considered testing its usability with sticky notes. A method I've used before, "sorting cards", came to mind, which could be useful for this. I jotted down some questions to understand if users could easily navigate the site.

• Can you find where you would set up an appointment with DZN?
• Was the process to book an appointment clear and straightforward?
• Locate the section where you can learn about Gen Z.
• Can you identify a key characteristic of Gen Z from the information provided?
• Navigate to the section that lists all the services DZN offers.
• Locate the contact information for DZN.
• How would you send a general inquiry to DZN?
• Can you find the DZN Toolkit section?
• Identify a resource from the toolkit
• Find the latest article or post in the "DZN Insights" section.

The core idea behind the DZN website is I want it to be a bridge between business owners like Naomi and the younger generation, Gen Z. The site should educate them about Gen Z, offer tools, and guide them on marketing effectively. In essence, the goal is to help businesses flourish by connecting with Gen Z.
